Alex Consani: Trailblazing Transgender Model and Gen Z Icon​

Early Life and Identity

Alex Monette Consani was born on July 23, 2003, in Petaluma, California. From a young age, she expressed her gender identity, beginning to wear feminine clothing at the age of four and choosing the name Alex by eight. Supported by her parents, she underwent hormone replacement therapy during puberty. Her mother works in water conservation, and her father is associated with Guide Dogs for the Blind. Alex has Italian, English, and German ancestry. ​

Modeling Career

At 12, Alex became the world's youngest transgender model after her mother discovered an advertisement for Slay Model Management, a Los Angeles-based agency for transgender models. Her profile gained international attention in 2016 following a feature in Cosmopolitan Germany. In 2019, she signed with IMG Models and relocated to New York City at 18. ​

Alex made her runway debut for Tom Ford in 2021 and has since walked for renowned brands such as Versace, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Chloé, and Coperni. In 2024, she became one of the first transgender models to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. ​

Social Media Presence

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Alex began posting comedic and unfiltered videos on TikTok under the username @captincroook, also known as "Miss Mawma." Her content resonated with Gen Z audiences, leading to a substantial following. By early 2024, she had over two million followers and more than 150 million likes on TikTok. ​

Education and Personal Life

Alex graduated from Petaluma High School in 2021 and attended Pace University in New York City, supported by scholarships from the Petaluma Educational Foundation. She continues to balance her academic pursuits with her modeling career. ​

Awards and Recognition

In December 2024, Alex made history by becoming the first transgender person to be named Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. She used her acceptance speech to advocate for greater inclusivity and support for marginalized communities within the fashion industry. ​
